Why is it important to take pictures?

Pictures are more than just frozen frames. They are living memories, pieces of time we get to keep forever. I had the most wonderful grandparents, two of the most loving, kind, and selfless people I’ve ever known. They poured so much love into our lives, always showing up with open arms, warm meals, and words of wisdom that still echo in my heart. But now that they are gone, all I have left are the pictures. Photos of my grandpa’s gentle smile, my grandma’s soft embrace, the way they looked at us like we were their whole world.

Those pictures are everything to me. They bring me comfort on hard days and joy when I need to remember what love looks like. They are part of the reason I became a photographer. Because moments pass, people grow, and sometimes we lose the ones who made us feel the most at home. But photos let us hold on to those moments a little longer.

Over the years, I have carried photos of the people I love the most. Friends, family, even moments with people I no longer talk to but still care about deeply. These images live in my phone, in frames, in my heart. They remind me of where I came from, who I am, and who I never want to forget.

Taking pictures is not just about capturing how someone looks. It is about capturing who they are, who they were in that moment. It matters to me. And if you have ever loved someone with your whole heart, it should matter to you too.

So take the picture. Take more photos. Of the people you love, the places you call home, the laughter, the mess, the beauty in your everyday life.

Because one day all you will have left is a photo

and you will wish you had taken more.
